The Long of It

Micah graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2009 with a Bachelor’s of the Arts Degree in both Criminal Justice and Sociology. While finishing that degree, Micah was hired as a substitute advocate for the Northwest Arkansas Women’s Shelter - what was then known as the Benton County Women’s Shelter. Upon graduating, Micah accepted a full-time position as their Court Advocate. During that time, she worked closely with survivors of violent crimes, including sexual assault and rape, and with Victim’s Witness Coordinators, Prosecutors, Legal Aid, and Private Attorneys across a 4-county region. She attended approximately 20 domestic court hearings per week in a multi-state service area and focused on developing and fostering a positive relationship with Judges, Court Staff, Prosecutor’s Offices, Law Enforcement, Attorneys and various other community service agencies. That position solidified Micah’s desire to pursue her law degree so that she could better assist those in need.

After working for the Women’s Shelter for nearly 3 years, she accepted a paralegal position with Walmart Home Office in order to bolster her resume and better prepare her for the challenges that law school would present. While with Walmart Home Office, Micah served as the lead paralegal on all high-risk trucking and tread separation claims throughout the nation. She was also tasked with reviewing incoming personal injury claims filed against Walmart for outstanding discovery issues across a multi-state region and reviewing pleadings and discovery requests for objectionable content and making proposed recommendations based on such. After over a year in that role, Micah was accepted to Law School.

While attending Law School at the University of Arkansas, Micah took full advantage of externships across a broad practice range. Micah spent one summer as an extern the Honorable John R. Scott in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit West, where she was able to observe a wide variety of cases and participate in research and drafting regarding various matters. The following summers were spent working for Walmart Home Office in various divisions. Micah worked for Global Compliance where she was employed as an Anti-Corruption Specialist, tasked with ensuring the accuracy of, and compliance with, anti-corruption program procedures by reviewing internal global anti-corruption data. Further, she analyzed data and identified program changes that drove global consistency while developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.

When that temporary position ended, Micah accepted an offer from Walmart Home Office’s Global Ethics division, where she reviewed internal and external global ethics complaints, and entered data to route ethical inquiries to the appropriate case managers. From there, Micah accepted another externship with Walmart Home Office in their International Legal Department. In that role, Micah researched FCPA Guidelines and assisted with compliance program development and implementation. She also reviewed international contracts and shareholders agreements for the numerous countries that Walmart has a presence in, including countries where Walmart uses third-party intermediaries. Micah also had the unique opportunity to assist with international mergers and acquisitions.

After her final externship ended, Micah was offered a permanent position with Walmart Home Office in their Global Labor Relations Division, which she accepted while she prepared for the Arkansas Bar Examination. While with Global Labor Relations, she developed training and communication to directly support the company’s union-free status in the U.S. in accordance with the National Labor Relations Act and managed the field Labor Relations Hotline, where she provided guidance to ensure that facility management fully complied with the NLRA. After nearly two years on that team, Micah began to miss working with individuals and families in crisis, so she sought out positions that would enable her to again advocate for others in a more meaningful way. In 2016, Micah accepted a contract position with Arkansas Administrative Office of the Courts where she has served as an Attorney ad Litem for children involved in Dependency Neglect cases in Washington County ever since. In that role, Micah has the privilege of representing children in all aspects of Dependency/Neglect proceedings, including drafting orders, completing legal research, providing trial advocacy, and ensuring that her juvenile clients’ best interests and needs are advocated for. Micah is also a certified Attorney ad Litem for family law and probate cases. Serving as an ad Litem is one of her greatest privileges as an attorney.

Micah is very active in the community through her continued support of local non-profits - especially those that support survivors of violence, that seek to restore peace and wholeness to families, and that support children and families in need. Micah is honored to serve on the Board of Directors for Restoration Village, a long-term, safe shelter for women and children in crisis. She has even formed her own non-profit, OHANA NWA, in an effort to further support the needs of teen mothers who are in foster care and their children. Micah remains steadfast in her desire to advocate for those in need and looks forward to having the chance to advocate for you.
